Australian Precision Marching and Drill Dance
Marching is originally derived from military squad drills in Australia and New Zealand during the post-war
1940’s. Marching is a non-contact, team sport allowing its members to learn
precision timing through marching and dancing in time with each other to
music. Marching is no longer restricted to females. Males can now participate
in our sport.
The routines performed today have evolved beyond their origins in
marching, into variations of precision drill, exhibition march, march past,
prop precision and freestyle drill/dance routines.
2007 also saw the reintroduction of the Set Drill. Marching has not
has a Set Drill for seniors since the late 1900’s. This is where senior teams
compete by completing a pre-determined routine. All teams competing perform
the same routine and are judged on their performance and marching standards.
Each state holds competitions throughout the season including a State
Titles. The season ends with National Titles being conducted over 2 days in a
chosen state. Teams from across Australia travel to compete at
the National Titles and it is considered the highlight of the marching
calendar.
Marching is a sport for all ages. There are 5 sections in which
members can march:
Under 9’s
